Chicory is an extensively refitted Nordhavn 46. Nearly every system and component has been repaired, refurbished or replaced on her. One of the most significant projects aboard Chicory has been the construction of a new helm. The original design of a Nordhavn 46 did not allow enough space for a proper helm seat. This required the skipper to stand at the helm when not under auto-pilot or in some cases use a small foldable wooden bench fitted atop a steal pole.
The new helm is pictured at the right and shows Nobeltec Admiral running on two 18 inch flat screen monitors. To the right of the keyboard is the Simrad follow-up steering tiller. This is how the skipper steers Chicory when not under Auto-pilot control. We have been using this configuration for three years and would never go back to the large destroyer wheel. It is a joy to pilot Chicory in this way and is great for navigating inlets, channels and the ICW.
