You may be aware that all Nordhavn's are somewhat custom and therefore have slightly different specifications. Please find below a outline of the specifications that differ from the Power Boat Guide (R)
Chicory carries 350 gallons of fresh water in five stainless steel tanks. She has a 100 gallon tank below the master stateroom berth, two 75 gallon tanks in the floor of the forward stateroom, a 70 gallon tank under the forward stateroom berth and finely a 30 gallon tank under the settee in the forward stateroom.
Chicory carries approximately 1100 gallons of fuel in four tanks
Chicory's air draft is approximately 38 feet as a result of the mainsail mast.
Chicory's fuel economy is as stated when the sails are not deployed. If you have a wind from astern and you deploy the sails, the load on the engine is decreased with a propionate decrease in fuel consumption. This is the idea behind the new Nordhavn MotorSailer. Although, unlike the new MotorSailer, Chicory does not have enough sail area to effectively travel by sail alone.
The sails are intended for supplemental power and to perform two important functions in an emergency loss of power. With sails deployed, the boat will be stabilized from rolling and you can make controlled headway while you affect repairs.
One final note on the sails. They can be completely deployed and controlled from the Portuguese Bridge in less than 2 minutes. I am not a sailor and it is a piece of cake to use the sails on Chicory.
Chicory drafts 5.5 feet with 3/4 fuel and normal loading. The 5 foot draft listed is with empty fuel and water tanks.
Chicory's Accommodations
Chicory's interior accommodations are slightly different than the image listed in Power Boat Guide (R).
Chicory's interior layout is based on the "Original" or "Offshore" layout. The reason is listed as the offshore layout is that the master stateroom is positioned mid ship and the berth is situated to be the most comfortable underway and at anchor. When crossing to the Bahamas, we experience 8 foot seas and it was easy to sleep in the master cabin because of its placement and orientation. The movement in the forward stateroom was not nearly as comfortable because the seas where causing the bow to accelorate skyward every time a new wave was encountered.
One significant difference in layout is that Chicory does not have the stairs that lead from the saloon to the master stateroom. This offers two advantages. The first advantage is Chicory's engine room is the biggest of all 46's. The stairs take up quite a bit of space in the engine room and their absence allows more room to move about and perform maintenance. You will notice in the master stateroom photos that Chicory has two entrance points to the engine room. One through the shower and one next to the berth. The second advantage is shown in the Saloon photos. You will notice Chicory has a desk and chair in the Saloon. A nice addition and a great area for the SSB radio.
One last change in layout is the large settee in the Saloon. There is an enormous amount of space available under this settee. We can store (4) large SCUBA tanks and all our gear, including BC's, Fins, wet suites, etc.
